The server is back up!

While I was working on the offline client, I rebooted the web server, which reset the max file handles to 1024. Since every connection takes up a file handle in linux, and most web browsers keep up to four connections open, the server ran out of file handles REALLY fast.

I fixed the problem now, and I think it even should survive a reboot (haven’t tried it yet, though).

Progress on the offline client has been very good, and I’ve added a new block type. Stairs. I tried adding corals, but it’s really hard to draw a single block that looks like corals, since it’s really more about crazy amounts of variation and diversity. But I do know that the corals will have tiny fish particles around them.

Sometime during this week, I’ll rename the old free versions of the game something like “Minecraft Classic”, and rename Infdev to just “Minecraft”. I’ll keep the classic client available for as long as people play it. Considering it’s the only version with multiplayer at the moment, I’ve got a feeling it’ll stay popular for a while longer. ;)
Infdev will get creative mode soon, but it will not be available to free users at the start. Later on, I will open up parts of the game for free players as a demo/shareware thing, but that’s going to have to wait until beta or possibly release.
